The working group for Radiopharmaceutical Sciences was founded in 2004 by assoc. Professor Mag. Dr. Markus Mitterhauser and assoc. Professor Mag. Dr. Wolfgang Wadsak who conjointly lead the team as equal partners since then. The interdisciplinary nature of this group is evident: it comprises of scientists deriving from many different disciplines, such as chemistry, pharmacy, nutritional sciences, physics, medicine and engineering, all devoted to our final goal: combining scientific curiosity and excellence. Currently, more than 20 scientists are closely associated with our group!
Our aim is PET tracer development – from bench to bedside. Therefore, medicinal radiochemistry and preclinical sciences are the main tools to transport our ideas to clinical routine. Furthermore, we are proud to guarantee the reliable preparation and support of all routinely used PET tracers, such as [18F]FDG, [11C]methionine or 68Ga-DOTATOC. Our quest can only be achieved through the close collaboration of the department of nuclear medicine of the Medical University of Vienna (MUW) and the hospital pharmacy of the general hospital of Vienna (AKH) based on the exceptional personal support of SR Elfriede Dolinar, MSc, aHPh and Profs. Robert Dudczak, MD, and Kurt Kletter, MD, PhD.
